my friend got married the weekend before christmas. it was mostly lovely, despite some unfortunates which involved me leaving my camera a city behind. but i got it back! i'm pleased.
i've found heaven in biscuits. and not just biscuits alone, but biscuits dipped in warm maple syrup. i find you can't enjoy this sitting at a table. a table is too monstrous for such an intimate treat, and plus the maple syrup might cool by the time you walk the five feet or whatever. so you must sit on the counter to eat it. ladies, cross your legs. gentlemen, too.
what i'm trying to say is that if you have biscuit recipes, pass them along. i would like to start a collection.
******
Homemade Biscuits from Moosewood Restaurant Low-Fat Favorites l 1996
1 1/2 cups unbleached white flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 to 2 tb sugar (or less, optional to your taste - i think i used 1/2 tb)
2 tb canola or other vegetable oil
5 tb nonfat milk or buttermilk
preheat oven to 350 F.
lightly oil or spray a baking sheet.
in a large bowl, sift together the flour, salt, baking powder, (and sugar). combine the oil and milk in another bowl. blend the milk mixture into the dry ingredients, adding it in a thin, steady stream while stirring from the sides of the bowl toward the center. avoid overstirring, which will make your biscuits tough.
when a dough begins to form, press the dough onto a floured surface, and with your hands, also lightly floured, press the dough into a ball. cut the dough in half, place one half on top of the other, and press down (using the palms of your hands). repeat this three more times, then mold the dough into an oblong shape and slice into four or six equal pieces. shape each piece into a biscuit and arrange on the baking sheet.
bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until slightly puffed and golden brown.
and then do your best to enjoy them with warm maple syrup. i promise you.

remember warm places?
anyway. i hope everyone had a nice holiday.. and that the merriment continues with new year's. next year? totally having my own "family" christmas at my own "home".. where it's warm and i can cook. oh, and if there's a boy involved, and he cooks too, then splendid.
after stuffing myself at home i got busy in the kitchen for the coming week. mmmm i made a most delicious red lentil and apricot soup. i also made a batch of gingerbread cookies, which turned out super yummy. they're the perfect treat to have around. i don't think i can handle one more bite of chocolate..
under the tree: tickets, tickets
inspiring holidays elsewhere: under the stool, obey the tree, good things..., tomtebloss & frost

things got a bit icy here today. would like to see some snow accumulate over the next couple of days i suppose. it is christmas after all. i made molly's peppermint bark last night.. i told a friend this and i'll tell you the same: it tastes like jingle bells. um, but if you eat too much it might make your tummy ache. fair warning.
these might be the perfect shoes.
i can't stand it by telepathe is a rumblin'.
happy merry jolly.

oh, so i've been away? it's been grand. our apartment is chilled to the bone. i'm drinking tea and eating calimyrna figs. laughed ridiculous with an old friend today. put something similar on your holiday list of must-haves-must-dos. this is fantastic. i want to host something just to watch it float. (as a side note: the landscape architect who designed it will be a visiting lecturer at my school next quarter.) and these ladies.

cheers.
